“Every year, to celebrate International Women’s Day, I create a playlist of composers I love. These are geniuses I am constantly inspired by.
My 2025 playlist is titled Now Is Our Time – IWD 2025, the title of Noa Fort’s homonymous song. This year I choose to bring to your attention the work of the 12 composers that make up cohort 7 of Mutual Mentorship For Musicians (of which I am part too) and the two co-founders: Jen Shyu and Sara Serpa.
Mutual Mentorship for Musicians (M³) is an organization created to empower, elevate, normalize and give visibility to musicians of historically underrepresented gender identities in intersection with race, sexuality, or ability across generations in the US and worldwide, through a radical model of mentorship and musical collaborative commissions. The musicians included are (in order of appearance): Summer Kodama, Sara Serpa, Melissa Almaguer, Daisy Mangwato, Manu Ranilla, Noa Fort, Maddalena Ghezzi, Jen Shyu, Carolina Borja-Marroquin, Paige Brown, Alexandria DeWalt, Chanelle Ignant, Yuhan Su and Coco Elysses.
