A rare chance to hear two leading French musicians – Sophia Domancich on piano and Simon Goubert on drums – playing with the incomparable Paul Dunmall on saxophones, Chris Mapp on bass and Percy Pursglove on trumpet. This will be a fantastic night.
From a classical background originally, Sophia Domancich’s life took a different turn when she started working with the likes of Bobby Few and Steve Lacy in Paris. A further great influence was becoming involved with the likes of Pip Pyle, the Canterbury scene and Elton Dean, with whom she worked closely till his death in 2016. (That affinity continues with Paul Dunmall having inherited Elton’s saxello.)
Paul Dunmall is well known to audiences from a career that stretches through the improvised music scene here over the past 35 years. With collaborators ranging from Evan Parker, Keith Tippett and Paul Rogers (in part through their work together in Mujician). Always a mesmerising and invigorating presence in any group he is involved with.
