Giles Thornton’s Big Band will play arrangements and original compositions that are on the album, entitled “Be In Today”, which will be released on the gig. The Big Band will comprise of some of the U.K’s finest Jazz Musicians, with some special guests.
Giles is a composer/arranger who has recently worked with Liane Carroll on her newest album launch (“The Right To Love”) as a conductor and arranger. He has also worked as a copyist for the Metropole Orkest at their 2017 BBC Prom, “Beneath The Underdog : Charles Mingus Revisited”.
Giles is a 4th year Jazz arranging/ composition student at Guildhall School Of Music And Drama , where , last year, he conducted the Guildhall Big Band ,with Mike Walker and Iain Dixon, in a concert of their music ,as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
The new album with feature original compositions and arrangements , written by Giles for Big Band. This will include collaborations with different singers. The big band will be made up of some of the most exciting young musicians in the U.K.
Giles’ original compositions are influenced by Vince Mendoza, Maria Schneider, Gill Evans and Mike Walker, among others. By having a big band, Giles has a large number of different textures and colours at his disposal. From delicate woodwind writing, to more modern rich big band writing.
