Mick Foster – baritone & other saxes
Dominic Ashworth – guitar
Tom Farmer – bass
Tristan Mailliot – drums
Mick Foster has worked extensively in the worlds of jazz and classical music. Known primarily as a baritone saxophone player, he has played with many groups including the big bands of John Dankworth and Stan Sulzmann, Laura Jurd’s Human Spirit, the Humphrey Lyttelton band and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He plays at the Vortex every month with the London Jazz Orchestra, often contributing original compositions. Mick has recorded three albums under his own name, and he has written for many different types of ensemble. Here he brings his quartet to play a diverse repertoire of original compositions and well known jazz pieces.
“Foster’s sound is warmer than some, occasionally Mulliganesque, his solos marked by fluency and the kind of pleasing ideas that imbue Ashworth’s contributions too..” Peter Vacher, Jazz UK
“Foster himself is a bright, imaginative soloist who exploits his instrument’s grainy, fruity charms perfectly, and his choice of material is impeccable. If you like your jazz warm, tasteful and elegant, without grandstanding […] this is for you.” Chris Parker, London Jazz
“Mick Foster, a master of the baritone saxophone with an obvious debt to Gerry Mulligan […] His rich baritone sound and positive refined playing come over superbly..” Brian Robinson, Jazz Journal
