The weekly discussion has been continuing for nearly 2 years. This week, we shall discuss how viable recordings are. No doubt that they are important as a way of ‘archiving’, but the financial returns are very different to how they were even a couple of years ago.
First, we lost the record shops. What a thrill it was to be able to go and browse in the local shop! Then, sales at gigs have slumped.
‘Streaming’, for better of worse, is the main way of earning now. But the physical products seem to be less important than ever. (Though in 2021, CDs in USA rose by 2 %.) There is also, of course, live-streaming, by venues. A very different prospect.
So what do we do?
So today, we shall discuss what is feasible and possible. All welcome, of course. Just for the chance to listen or actively to participate.
