About
Linley Hamilton is a trumpeter, educator and broadcaster from Belfast who has been part of the jazz scene for over 35 years. He is an artist with 6 studio albums: Up to Now (2001), Taylor Made (2011), In Transition (2014), Making Other Arrangements (2018), For the Record (2020) & Ginger’s Hollow (2023).
Making Other Arrangements was a large-ensemble with strings album made with Camden Recording Studios Dublin, while the follow-up album, For the Record, was made with Linley’s quintet featuring Adam Nussbaum drums, Mark Egan bass, Cian Boylan piano and Derek DOC O’Connor sax. These two albums spent twenty-five weeks in the US Jazzweek charts and generated an international profile for Linley who has been working in recent years in the UK and Europe as band leader. He has recorded a new album with his quintet, Ginger’s Hollow which is released 26 May 2023 on Whirlwind Recordings
Linley has maintained an academic path following up his 2009 Masters in Jazz Performance from DIT and Medal for Academic Excellence, with a PhD from Ulster University Magee in 2014, and a full-time position there as Lecturer in Music.
Linley also has a jazz show on BBC Radio Ulster, Jazz World with Linley Hamilton, which broadcasts on Saturday nights at 9pm…a contemporary jazz show with a focus on Ireland.
In recent years, Linley has set up Magy’s Farm with his wife Maggie…a performance space mostly for jazz from around the world, www.magysfarm.co.uk Artists who have performed there include, Jim Beard and Jon Herington (Steely Dan), Mike Janisch, Ari Hoenig, Seamus Blake, Bill Carrothers as part of Kevin Brady’s Electric Band, the Larry Goldings Trio, Trio Grande 2.0, ENEMY and the Mike Janisch Quintet.
Linley manages to make all these things happen simultaneously and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon!
