About
Pianist Alex Webb leads this group with a powerful tenor & trombone front-line celebrating ‘jukebox jazz’ – the bluesy, swinging jazz of the 1950s and 60s, as well as more recent works from the likes of Charlie Haden.
Tenor saxophonist Denys Baptiste has played and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz, including McCoy Tyner, Andrew Hill & Ernest Ranglin. He has won multiple awards including the “Mercury Music Album of the Year” and “MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act” and he was also a two-time Jazz FM Award Nominee in 2018.
“Denys Baptiste…taking Europe by storm and becoming the icon of British jazz” Time Magazine
“Baptiste…a journey of unregulated bliss” Liverpool International Jazz Festival
Trombonist Rosie Turton is a rising star on the UK music scene, a graduate of the Tomorrow’s Warriors collective, cited by The Guardian as ‘One To Watch’ and nominated for Jazz FM’s ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year 2020’.
“A warm-hearted tone, speedy modernist lines and short funky riffs” The Financial Times on Rosie Turton.
Alex Webb is a prolific songwriter, arranger and pianist, whose songs have been recorded by a number of high-profile jazz singers including China Moses, Jo Harrop, Mina Agossi & Liane Carroll. For the gig tonight Quintet Blue is completed by bassist Jeremy Brown and drummer Winston Clifford.
