Vortex discussion 164 -Jazz and the environment

Continuing from last week!

Live performances and interactions are one of the most exciting elements of being involved with music. But the environmental impacts can be pretty negative. So are there alternatives which compensate? With the weather catastrophe this summer, the potential environmental cost of musicians and audiences travelling need to be addressed.

Among those solutions are watching online which of course happened with a vengeance during lockdown. But can we interact between audience and musicians remotely in a better way? Maybe the latency problem is about to be solved. Such as a performance between Tin Cafe in Faversham (with Evan Parker) and Roulette in Brooklyn. Or, in a performance between a festival near Innsbruck with further musicians from Salzburg to create an integrated brass ensemble.

Should we worry?

Join in the discussion, led by Oliver Weindling, Vortex director. Open to all.
