About
Join us for a very memorable evening bringing together three of London’s finest jazz artists celebrating the art of the ballad!
Following on from their recent Irish tour, the trio will perform songs from some of the most celebrated song writers in history in the last 100 years. From Cole Porter to Leonard Bernstein, and Lorenz Hart to Kenny Wheeler, their programme reflects the immense contribution of composers in jazz in the 20th and 21st encapsulated by the great vocalists of that era including Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan.
Lauren Kinsella is an Irish London based vocalist, composer and improviser. An integral performer on the UK and European music scene, she can be heard in many groups including Snowpoet,Ruth Goller’s SKYLLA, Seafarers, Roamer with bassist Simon Jermyn, drummer Matthew Jacobson and saxophonist Matthew Halpin, Shadowlands with saxophonist Robin Finker and pianist Kit Downes and the vocal quartet acapella group Of Cabbages and Kings. Featuring regularly on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 6, RTE Lyric FM, Jazz FM, BBC Radio Scotland, Le Bande Passante, Sverigesradio and ORF Radio Lauren’s music has a dedicated listening audience. She has released critically acclaimed albums on Edition Records, WideEarRecords, Diatribe and BMC records with her music being described as “a multi-faceted jewel” (Clash Magazine) and “full of romance and wonder” (BBC 6 Music).
For more than two decades pianist Liam Noble has been a key figure on the vibrant British Jazz scene, both as a sideman and leader. Throughout his rich career, Noble’s compositional eye for structure and versatility as an artist has allowed him to explore longer compositional forms and unorthodox improvisational structures in the 2001 record “In the Meantime” as well as marking a new foray into electronica in 2002 in a commission from Birmingham Jazz based on Japanese Death Poetry. He has released 2 albums with free improv trio “Sleepthief” (2008,20011) and gained further acclaim with the Bobby Wellins Quartet on the 2009 CD “BRUBECK”, gaining an almost unprecedented 5 star review in The Guardian.
Julian Siegel is an in-demand saxophonist on the UK and European Jazz scene who has worked with many of the top figures in the music. He was awarded the 2007 BBC Jazz Award for Best Instrumentalist. He is currently touring with the Julian Siegel Quartet featuring pianist Liam Noble, bassist Oli Hayhurst and drummer Gene Calderazzo. The Quartet’s first CD ‘Urban Theme Park’ was awarded the 2011 London Jazz Award and in February 2018 the Quartet released their new album ‘VISTA’ on Whirlwind Recordings. Since the release of ‘VISTA’, the band has performed internationally at Jazz Festivals including Inntöne Jazz Festival in Austria, Made in The UK at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, NY, Jazz Standard NYC, JazzFestival Göttingen, Germany, Limerick Jazz Festival Ireland, UK’s Love Supreme Festival, Bristol and Manchester International Jazz Festivals and an extensive 2018 – 2019 Arts Council England UK Tour.
