About
London based German violinist and singer Johanna Burnheart (/ˈjɒhʌnnʌ/ pron. yo-HUN-na) carves her own niche with a unique mix of modal jazz and electronic works.
Much of her life has been spent absorbed in the Berlin sound of the techno & house scene resulting in this certain influence permeating her compositions. Johanna’s work exists at the point where modal jazz and techno meet.
Since forming her own band end of 2018, Johanna released her debut album simply called “Burnheart” with Ropeadope Records on October 30th 2020. Besides the positive reviews in Jazzwise Magazine, MOJO and Backseatmafia among others, Johanna was chosen as one of 30 best new artists for 2021 by the Guardian. In 2021 she released a remix EP called “Burnheart Remixed” with remixes from Acid Pauli, Beth Lydi, Nesa Azadikhah and Pilo Adami as an homage to her love for techno and how it influenced her debut record.
Johanna’s second album “Bär” was released digitally on all platforms on December 1st 2023 to great critical acclaim. Very positive and deep reviews can be found in Jazzwise Magazine, Record Collector, MOJO Magazine and Uncut Magazine. She has appeared live on Worldwide FM with Gilles Peterson since the release and her album has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2, Toronto Jazz FM, UK Jazz FM by Jamie Cullum, Gilles Peterson and Chris Phillips amongst others.
This show marks the release day of the “Bär” vinyl and CD and it will be a truly special occasion of the full band lineup performing this music together live.
