The Vortex moves outside into Gillett Square for a celebration of all things Summer. With live music during the day, moving into the Vortex for the evening until late. Pop next door to the Bradbury Street Party for games, contemporary & home made food, good art, African cuisine, funky soul grooves, great shopping & loads more.
2pm Performances from the Vortex Summer School: intrepid jazz explorers from the first Summer School strut their new skills for us. Expect brand new songs and jazz riffs
3.00pm Krar Collective: a feast of mind-blowing grooves, with hypnotic rhythms driving their rootsy yet contemporary take on traditional Ethiopian music.
4.30pm London Gypsy Orchestra: a dynamic group of 30 inspired musicians performing Gypsy and Balkan music, the biggest ensemble of its kind in Western Europe.
5.45pm Tatcho Drom: described by Songlines Magazine as ‘a shining star in the UK’s Balkan music scene’, Tatcho Drom stage a vibrant show of beautiful melodies and dancing rhythms.
7.00pm Dunajska Kapelye: playing “Extreme, virtuoso Balkan Gypsy Jazz” (Time Out) since their debut at the Vortex’s gypsy night in 2006.
8.15pm Hackney Colliery Band: with a tongue-in-cheek, yet respectful, nod to the great tradition of British brass bands, Hackney Colliery’s influences are as diverse as the London borough that gave them their name, with a delirious combination of rock, afro-beat, hip hop, Balkan beats, contemporary jazz and soul.

9.15pm The Big Steal: nine-piece rocksteady/reggae group led by Boxettes vocalist Yvette Riby-Williams, pianist Bruno Heinen and guitarist Michael Winawer
10:00pm Hackney Globetrotter: DJ Russ Jones mixes global beats and world/dance music with Future World Funk, embracing eclectic cultural styles including mashed-up Brazillian 2-Step, Afro-house, ragga, Japanese funk, Ghanian Hip Life and Moroccan Gnawa Dub.
