VORTEX LATES: The Downstairs Living Room – Rebecka Edlund & Immy Churchill

Doors 10:00 PM, Finish at 1:00 AM

ABOUT

The new series of late-night gigs on Friday brings in artists from the contemporary folk and songwriter scenes in London and beyond, as well as small groups with exploratory approaches to songs and music from the outer edges of the jazz world.

Converting Vortex Downstairs into their very own living room, vocalists Rebecka Edlund and Immy Churchill invite you to a night of storytelling through music. With their shared love for songwriting and improvisation, the singers intertwine their unique voices with some of the most exciting musicians in the UK.

Combining the influences of a broad range of vocalists, from Joni Mitchell to Lauren Newton to Blossom Dearie, this will be an evening of innovative singing, lyrical anomalies and wild sounds. The Downstairs Living Room series is a rare chance to see the collaboration of two of London’s leading jazz vocalists as they bring together their own musical stories in this intimate setting.

Once A Fig takes the listener with them on a musical journey as they intertwine Swedish and English folk traditions with original music and improvisation. Spinning, trance-like melodies morph into electrifying groove-based tunes as tales from the forest meet daydreams in the big city. The trio has opened up a new world with their unique sound and strong chemistry, passing on something truly special to their audience.
