About
Annie Whitehead arrived on the London jazz, pop and world music scene in the early 80’s. Since then she has brought her distinctive sound to a wide range of projects, exploring many different musical styles. These include, amongst many others: the Brotherhood of Breath, various groups with John Stevens, Elton Dean’s Newsense (alongside legendary trombonists Roswell Rudd and Paul Rutherford), the Penguin Café Orchestra, McCoy Tyner, Carla Bley, Abdullah Ibrahim, Jasper van t’ Hof, Louis Moholo, and Robert Wyatt.
The 4tet plays material from Annie’s albums ‘Naked’, ‘Home’ and ‘The Gathering’, as well as compositions by the likes of Don Drummond, SA trombonist Jonas Gwangwa, and Dave Brubeck!
The band has appeared at most major UK and international jazz festivals, and have also featured many times on BBC Radio 3, broadcasting from the Blackheath Concert Halls, and the London Jazz Festival.
Jennifer Maidman (bass)
A multi-instrumentalist and producer who has worked with David Sylvian, Gerry Rafferty, Paul Brady, Boy George, Joan Armatrading, George Clinton and The Penguin Cafe Orchestra amongst many others.
Steve Lodder (keyboards)
One of Europe’s finest jazz musicians, Steve has played with John Etheridge, Maggie Nichols, George Russell’s ‘Living Time Orchestra’ and has toured and recorded with Andy Sheppards ‘Inco-motion’.
Liam Genockey (drums)
Liam currently tours and records with Steeleye Span, and over the years has worked with many artists from the jazz, rock and pop scene, including Trevor Watts Moire Music, Gerry Rafferty, Paul Brady and Elton Dean.
