An incredible double bill. First we have the Calum Gourlay Big Band, which over recent months has proved itself to be one of the premier young bands in London today. It will be followed by Kirk Lightsey + Jean Toussaint.

It’s always a pleasure to welcome back iconic pianist Kirk Lightsey, celebrating his 80th birthday, but playing with as much joy, energy and beauty as ever. He renews a partnership with Jean Toussaint, who, ever since his time as a Jazz Messenger with Art Blakey, has matched Kirk in attitude and approach.

One of the last of the great Detroit-born musicians, a heritage that included Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan, he brings the quality and style of the Village Vanguard to the Vortex.
