As Clifford Thornton has recently written on an American Jazz Forum:
“He was a friend to and tireless chronicler/supporter of British creative improvised music and beyond. The Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Paul Rutherford, Derek Bailey, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Kent Carter, Bobby Bradford, John Carter, Duck Baker, Charlotte Hug, Sylvia Hallett, Fred Lonberg-Holm, John Butcher, Bernie McGann, and so many others had their music archived and released on Emanem. RIP and thank you Martin.“
The Emanem label was founded in 1974 by Martin Davidson in order to publish music too good and too adventurous to be considered by most other labels. After sporadically releasing LPs on three continents, the label returned to London and has been releasing CDs since 1995, extending the Emanem tradition of undiluted exploratory excellence.
Proceeds from this event will go towards B’Tselem, a Jerusalem-based non-profit organisation whose stated goals are to document human rights violations in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian.
