About
The Alex Wilson Trio are a London-based contemporary jazz group, featuring three of most exciting improvisers on the UK scene. The group’s music written by Alex Wilson draws on contemporary jazz composers from the European and American jazz scenes, including Kit Downes, Gerald Clayton, Craig Taborn, and others, while also touching on classical music, folk song, and contemporary electronic music.
Since arriving on the London jazz scene in 2019, Alex has been attracting attention for his nuanced, versatile, and dynamic approach to the piano. Currently engaged in a range of projects from jazz/electronic fusion, contemporary pop, to straight-ahead jazz, Alex’s playing is regularly showcased at top venues in the UK and Europe, including recent performances at Jazzkaar Festival, Estonia, The Vortex Jazz Club, La Petite Halle, Paris, the London Jazz Festival, and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Alex’s music for piano trio represents a new chapter in his creative work and speaks to his wide range of influences and musical experiences. He was awarded the Royal Academy of Music’s Scott Philbrick Jazz Prize in 2022 for his outstanding performance and has previously received the Countess of Munster Postgraduate Award as well as a sponsorship from the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation.
