The Local presents Alexis Taylor
Alexis Taylor is a musician, producer, DJ and songwriter from London, a co-founder of Grammy-nominated pop group Hot Chip, and member of improvised/non-improvised music project About Group.
New album Await Barbarians, is released by Domino Records on 9th June 2014. Await Barbarians is a series of songs “from the halfway line.’ Possessing the same immediacy as his music with Hot Chip and the adventurousness of his work with About Group, there is a special intimacy to these lyrics, a simplicity and candour in his expression of emotion that brings to mind the best singer-songwriter records from Laurel Canyon, though as always with Taylor the moments of honesty are matched with a sense of humour, playfulness and fun.
Alexis’s first solo album, Rubbed Out, was released on Treader in 2008, and his most recent solo release was the EP Nayim From The Halfway Line, on Domino. Alexis has also collaborated with visual artists Oliver Payne and Nick Relph for their Musical Food film for Frieze Art Fair, and with German producer Justus Kohncke in the duo Fainting By Numbers.
His star-sign is most often Aries, but sometimes Taurus, depending on which horoscope you read. Based on this confusion, Alexis chooses not to read any. His favourite singers are Prince and Alex Chilton.
