Acclaimed pianist and composer Antonio Zambrini is one of the most respected figurehead of the Italian Jazz scene, as well as a revered educator as professor of Piano at the Conservatory of Milan. He presents at the Vortex his creative take on some of the most iconic film soundtracks of the Italian neorealism. This project of rediscovery originated in Zambrini’s longstanding collaboration with the Milan Film Institute (Cineteca di Milano), where he frequently performed live improvised soundtracks to silent films. There he had access to a wealth of cinematic material to draw inspiration from, some of which was even unreleased by the film directors themselves. The work culminated in the recording of the album “Antonio Zambrini plays Nino Rota”. He will be joined by his long standing rhythm section of choice featuring bassist Andrea Di Biase and drummer Jon Scott.
