An evening of music from the great Wayne Shorter focussing on his solo albums and time with with Art Blakey and Miles Davis.
From the late 50s onwards saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter helped shape modern jazz through not just his playing, but also his writing.
According to Herbie Hancock, talking about their time together in the Second Great Miles Davis Quintet: “The master writer to me, in that group, was Wayne Shorter. He still is a master. Wayne was one of the few people who brought music to Miles that didn’t get changed.” Many of these compositions have gone on to become jazz standards and continue to sound fresh and exiting today.
Following on from the band’s debut show at the Vortex featuring all Thelonious Monk repertoire last year, we return to present a celebration of another of the all time jazz greats. Expect some well known favourites and a few less commonly played tunes as we spend an evening with one of the iconic composers of the 20th century.
