About
Bassist and composer Dave Manington is one of the mainstays of the London jazz scene, a founder member of the Loop Collective, he has played with many of the pre-eminent jazz musicians in the UK and Europe including Julian Arguelles, Marius Neset and Gwilym Simcock amongst many others. He co-founded the Loop Collective to pool creative resources with other like-minded musicians. His debut quartet album “Headrush” was released on Loop Records in 2008 to critical acclaim. He followed this up with two albums from his band “Riff Raff” which were described as “Inventive, forward-looking jazz that subtly pushes the envelope whilst remaining thoroughly accessible to the listener.” The Jazzmann. He is also a founder member of the much-respected e17 jazz collective, Tori Freestone’s Trio, Solstice and Yazz Ahmed’s Quartet. Dave was nominated for an Ivor Novello award for jazz composition in 2022.
“Riff Raff mix the leader’s clever composing with a formidable lineup, …and the soundscape embraces a 21st century sax-led cool school sound, raw guitar-fusion, diffident Wayne Shorteresque lyricism, and vocals that showcase Beraha’s eloquent lyrics and inventiveness as a wordless improviser.” The Guardian
