Emilia Martensson (Vocalist of the year- Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2016), launches a new project together with Music Centrum Öst, EFG London Jazz Festival and The Vortex Jazz Club. The project will run throughout 2019 and focuses on new collaborations between Swedish artists and UK based artists.
As part of this evening and project launch Emilia has invited ‘Swedish Harmonica Sensation’ Filip Jers to collaborate with her and her band featuring Adriano Adewale on percussion, Luca Boscagin on Guitar and Sam Lasserson on Bass. A brand new set of music will be performed, crossing the border between Jazz and Swedish Folk Music through original compositions, standards and classic folk songs from Sweden.
Emilia Mårtensson is a London based Swedish vocalist and composer of considerable repute. After her three latest album releases Emilia has built a well- deserved reputation as one of the most exciting young vocalists on the UK Jazz scene and she was awarded ‘Vocalist of the Year-2016′ at The Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Her gently expressive voice and highly personal compositions are firmly rooted within the folklore and countryside of her native southern Sweden, adding to the mystique and allure of a distinctive and truly original artist.
The international respected harmonica player Filip Jers (b. 1986) has been called ”Swedish Harmonica Sensation” by the music critics in Europe. He plays all sorts of harmonicas; from the sophisticated chromatic harmonica to the earthy blues harp and the rare bass harmonica. He also performs on jaw harp, guitar and accordion.
He became double world champion on harmonica at the age of 18 at World Harmonica Festival 2005 in Trossingen, Germany. Since then he has worked as freelance musician, with studio sessions and teaching harmonica. He tours a lot and has visited around 30 countries to play music, for example: Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Holland, USA, South Korea, Japan and Canada.
”That Sweden has got its own harmonica virtuoso in Toots Thielemans class is very clear.” – Lena Köster, Upsala Nya Tidning 2011
