Evan Parker (saxophone), Matt Wright (live sampling, electronics), Hannah Marshall (cello)
“Matthew Wright is live sampling sounds and feeding them into a mix – heard in sometimes disconcerting surround sound – of his own electronics and occasional arthouse turntablism. He’s also channelling Evan Parker’s saxophone, sending those trademark flurries of soprano skirling around the room in overlapping flurries.” (Dalstonsound)
“Mesmerizingly beautiful” (John Eyles, allaboutjazz)
If you’ve ever been tempted by free improvisation, Parker is your gateway drug, wrote standup comedian and free-jazz fan Stewart Lee in The Guardian in 2010. He didn’t mean Charlie Parker but Evan Parker, the British jazz saxophone revolutionary who transformed the language and techniques of the instrument in the late 1960s and has since become one of the most admired and influential saxophone improvisers on the planet.
Parker has a long enduring relationship with the Vortex and continues his monthly residency.
