Paal Nilssen-Love – drums
Jon Rune Strøm – bass
Frode Gjerstad – sax, clarinets
Paal and Frode grew up in Stavanger and have played together since Paal was 15 years old. Their first duo recording was released earlier this year: 180 gram vinyl on the Tyyfus label from Finland. This long lasting musical partnership is augmented by Jon Rune Strøm, who plays with many up and coming groups from Oslo.
Frode first became known to an international audience through his work with John Stevens and Johnny Dyani. Since then he has recorded with Borah Bergman, Bobby Bradford, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Peter Brotzmann and more.
Paal has played with some of the most amazing musicians: Brotzmann, Mats Gustavsson, Ken Vandermark, Evan Parker, Pat Metheny, Joe McPhee, etc and he is now traveling the world with the very best.
Jon Rune Strøm is one of the new leading bass voices of Norwegian jazz and improv. Known as an extreme high energy free player with extraordinary stamina, he’s leant his bass muscle to both straight ahead jazz projects as well as free improvised settings such as Frode Gjerstad’s trio with drummer Paal Nilssen-Love. Jon Rune is also working with other known improvisers including Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Steve Swell and Raymond Strid.
