Returning to The Vortex for the first time since their sold out debut shows in January 2016, Jasper Høiby’s Fellow Creatures are primed to pounce for what promises to be a truly spectacular two evenings of music.
Building on the triumph of their 2016 debut album, here they abandon the controlled studio environment for a no-holds-barred live album recording with the heavyweight horn section of saxophonist Mark Lockheart and trumpeter Laura Jurd augmented/joined by ferocious young sax scientist Jim Gold.
Expect earthy Nordic grooves, rousing horn anthems and rhythmic face-offs from an all star band described by the Guardian as “masters of evolving melody”. This is a unique opportunity to experience the intimate inner-workings of a band that, although in it’s early years, has already exquisitely combined Høiby’s signature rhythmic sophistication with unhinged European freedom.
The band consists of – Jasper Høiby (bass) Mark Lockheart (saxes), Laura Jurd (trumpet and flugel), Will Barry (piano) and Corrie Dick (drums and percussion).
“I can only describe it as joyous. It’s a joyous album..“

“..rhythm-twisting struts are played with the breeziness of a carefree street band.”
