Jean Toussaint has been at the forefront of the British Jazz Scene since his arrival from the US in the late eighties. A former member of the legendary Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, he splits his time as a bandleader, composer, saxophonist with teaching at Trinity Laban, GSMD and Birmingham Conservatoire. In 2018 he received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Jazz Educator of the year and in 2019 the coveted JazzFM award for instrumentalist of the year. His 2018 CD release Jean Toussaint Allstar 6tet was nominated for CD of the year at the same 2019 JazzFM awards and again at the Parliamentary Jazz awards 2019. His latest CD release was Jean Toussaint Allstar 6tet “Live at the Jazz Cafe which received rave reviews upon its release. He is currently working on a new recording of his compositions in a quartet / quintet formation. The compositions on this new release will be based on tributes written for people and places that are dear to him. It should be released in 2021.
