About
Working with Afghani poet, Reza Mohammadi, guitarist/composer and Gokumi leader Joel Bell has drawn from the traditional Persian compositional technique of borrowing rhythms from ancient poetry, extending this into detailed transcriptions of Reza’s powerful recitations, which the group then extend and improvise upon.
Reza is regarded as one of the most exciting young poets writing in Farsi today and a prolific journalist, with articles published in Afghanistan, Iran and the Guardian in the UK. In 2014 he was awarded the Medal of Mir Masjedi by Afghanistan president with more than 30 other awards to his name.
Expect a blurring of tradition, improvisation and composition in an intimate expression of contemporary spoken word.
