About

Acoustic improvised music from a trio and a duo.

Nicols / Camatta / Kraabel forging ahead into trio possibilities!

Maggie Nicols is one of the greatest of free improvisers, a teacher and influence for so many; her autobiographical primer on life and improvisation will be appearing soon.

Simon Camatta is an internationally known improvising drummer from Germany. He performs and records with numerous improvisers and also makes full-length improvised drum solos.

Caroline Kraabel is an improviser, artist, and composer with a special interest in large-group improvisation. In 2022 she founded a large improvising group made up of all sorts of women, non-binary, and transgender improvisers: ONe_Orchestra New. Her soundfilm London 26 and 28 March 2020: imitation: inversion won the 2021 Ivor Novello Award for Best Sound Art Composer.

Hackel / Yamada Duo

Teresa Hackel, born in Berlin and based in Switzerland, and Eiko Yamada, born in Tokyo and based in Germany, have known each other for about twenty years. As free improvising musicians, each sought her own way of expressing herself, and each discovered her own colours in the recorder. Playing the same familiar instrument created a connection between them; after having entertained the idea of a collaboration for a long time, they have now been working together for 4 years.
Their explorations as a purely acoustic recorder duo creating a form together with special playing techniques – and without any electronic effects – is absolutely unique and boggles the ears – they must be heard! One plus one will become more than two.
Teresa Hackel has been awarded a scholarship and residency in London by Aargauer Kuratorium Switzerland until the end of December 2024.
