An auspicious collaboration between the US and UK improvised music scenes, this quartet brings together two stalwart voices of the New York creative music community alongside a pair of the most in-demand collaborators in the North of England. Frequent rhythm-section colleagues with a near telepathic musical empathy, Johnny Hunter and John Pope bring their energetic chemistry and versatile musicianship to a variety of projects across the spectrum of modern creative music, from straight-ahead swing and hard-bop to searing fire music to the most abstract of free improvisation. This brand new ensemble features them in combination with two of the most acclaimed musicians in NYC and beyond: the long-time partnership of luminary composer and bandleader Ingrid Laubrock and master improviser Tom Rainey. This potent configuration of creative artists promises to be a thrilling example of the powers of collective music-making, international collaboration and the wide-open possibilities of a double drum kit line-up.
