In April 2014 Led Bib celebrate 10 years of being together and creating melodic improvised music. The band celebrate this amazing achievement with two new releases: a live vinyl only album & a new studio album on CD & download, and THREE live dates at the Vortex.
Led Bib are one of the original torch bearers for the revitalized young British jazz scene.
Mercury Prize nominated rock-jazzers Led Bib celebrate their 10 year anniversary in 2014 with two record releases in April and an extensive European tour throughout April to May. Looking back on a decade of music that takes in seven albums and a string of accolades, acclaim and performances, the band can feel safe in the knowledge that they punched through genre barriers to carry the flag for UK progressive music.
Following their successful crowd funding campaign this year, the new studio album ‘The People in Your Neighbourhood’ will be released at the end of April 2014, alongside this will be a special 500 limited edition vinyl release of a new live record ‘The Good Egg’, recorded over 2013, which will also be released on the same date. Both releases will come out via American label Cuneiform. For the tour, the group begin in the UK then move to the continent. The UK portion of the tour takes in 13 dates including the album launch which will be set over 3 nights, 1st -3rd May 2014, at London’s legendary Vortex Jazz Club, a club they helped re-open with their first album launch when it relocated 8 years ago.
Led Bib, have been described as “a lean, mean, improv-rocking jazz machine” Time Out and “among very few artists who seem less interested in following anyone else’s traditions than starting their own” Yahoo Music. The five piece blend groove, improvisation, thrash and everything in-between and their live shows are renowned for carrying along their audiences with an undeniable energy and pulse unusual for a jazz group and more akin to their avant rock peers.
The group, formed in 2003 by drummer/composer Holub, played its first gig on February 24th, 2004. The group released their first album in May 2005 to widespread critical praise and went on to win the 2005 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. Their second album ‘Sizewell Tea’ was released in 2007 through iconic London based record label Babel. It was quickly followed by a limited edition live release, but it was the release of their 4th album ‘Sensible Shoes’ that saw them experience widespread acclaim following the announcement that they were chosen as an Album of the Year in the Barclaycard Mercury Prize. The ensuing media storm saw them reach in excess of 20 million people as they performed on TV & Radio sessions including Channel 4 TV News with Jon Snow and playing live on BBC 2.
In 2011 they released ‘Bring Your Own’, their second album for US based Cuneiform Records, which was quickly hailed as a stand out success, getting 4 and 5 star reviews across the board. Led Bib continue to appeal to all fans of good music – it’s the reason that drum and bass heads, jazz aficionados and folk and pop fans are dotted across their audiences. They have drawn references from across the musical spectrum from Captain Beefheart and John Zorn to Pink Floyd and Miles Davis.
