LJO VORTEX SESSIONS Featuring Pete Hurt and Henry Lowther

Amongst the greats of their generation, saxophonist Pete Hurt and trumpeter Henry Lowther stand out as unique with their personal styles, sounds and virtuosity. They have played together for decades in the LJO and in each other’s bands, and have been featured with a host of artists including Gil Evans, Kenny Wheeler, George Russell, Stan Sulzmann and Carla Bley.  Equally renowned as writers, their original music is a staple of the LJO’s repertoire, and this month we bring it to the fore.

The LJO will be donating proceeds from their performance on 4 February to Epilepsy Action in memory of Sasha Lowther, son of trumpeter Henry Lowther. Sasha, whose birthday is 4 February, recently passed away as a result of complications from epilepsy.
