Born in Portugal to Cape Verdean parents, Carmen Souza fuses her forebear’s musical traditions with contemporary jazz, Latin and European music. She lives in this magical Trans-Atlantic space, thoughtfully exploring the unexpected connections between jazz and Cape Verdean culture.
Virtuosic yet warm, stunning and welcoming, Souza, with support from long-time musical collaborator bassist THEO PASCAL and drummer ELIAS KACOMANOLIS captures all the possibilities of her Cape Verdean roots with earthy wisdom and cerebral swing. In CREOLOGY, album nº8, Carmen Souza & Theo Pascal take us on a musical journey through the route of the Creole Nation sounds. Discover rhythms like Batuque, Funana, Semba, Quilapanga, Marrabenta from Cabo Verde, Angola, Mozambique together with Afro-Brazilian and Cuban sounds, traveling all the way to the jazz shores of New Orleans.
In this festival Carmen Souza together with her long-time bass player, composer/producer Theo Pascal and drummer Elias Kacomanolis perform songs from their own repertoire together.
