London’s premier modern big band plays music by one of it’s founder writers. Celebrating John Warren’s 80th birthday with a selection of his compositions and arrangements.
The LJO Vortex Sessions, 30 years old next January, is London’s longest jazz residency. They finish their 2017-18 season at the Vortex playing music by John Warren and one by Martin Hathaway as a tribute to John. The host of great soloists including Henry Lowther, Martin Speake, Pete Hurt, Alcyona Mick and Tori Freestone, will be featured in compositions spanning 50 years.
The LJO began with works by Kenny Wheeler, Warren, John Taylor continues with pieces by current members – Hurt, Mick, Lowther and their conductor Scott Sroman – showcasing exciting soloing from the finest players on the scene, great ensemble playing and cutting edge writing.
