About
Born and bred in East London, Meg Bird is an emerging young artist right at the cusp of an exciting musical career. Her sound is rooted in the jazz tradition, though and she is constantly pushing songs, both old and new, to fresh boundaries. When song writing, she fuses this sound with her love for songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Rufus Wainwright, bringing a passion for lyric into the world of jazz.
Having enjoyed such success from the release of her debut album ‘Girls Like Lions’ in the Autumn, Meg is back at the Vortex to celebrate the music and musicians that have inspired her creative process. Expect music from contemporary greats, such as Cecile McLorin Salvant, timeless songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, and, of course, a few tunes from the Great American Songbook as well.
