For their EFG London Jazz Festival show Mopomoso have programmed four sets of intrepid music from the freer end of things.
Martin Speake (sax) / Mark Sanders (drums, percussion)
Martins musical voice expresses a deep understanding of the history and language of jazz, with an individuality as an improviser that’s as intelligent as it is melodic. Tonight, joined by the classy precision and fire of drummer & percussionist Sanders, we can expect a music of rare poise and elegance.
Richard Scottʼs Lightning Ensemble – Richard Scott (buchla lightning, wigi electronics) / Adam Linson (bass) / Phil Marks (percussion) / David Birchall (guitar)
We are delighted to welcome composer and improviser Richard Scott for a Mopomoso debut. Working with analogue modular synthesizers and alternative controllers such as his own self-designed WiGi infra red controller developed at STEIM, the Buchla Thunder and Buchla Lightning he leads this fine quartet into fresh worlds of sonic adventure.
Kay Grant (voice) / Marcio Mattos (cello)
Two remarkable musicians, both well known and respected on the London scene, and making their first Mopomoso appearance as a duo. Kay Grantʼs vocal abilities and invention match perfectly the detailed intensity of Mattosʼs cello as they swoop, chatter and cajole the unfolding musical narrative.
Phil Wachsmann (violin)/ Matt Hutchinson (piano) duo
STOP PRESS: As John is unable to play, instead of the original group of John Russell (guitar) / Phil Wachsmann (violin) + special guest Yoko Arai (piano), we are delighted that Phil will be joined by Matt for their calssic duo. Both players have a highly developed sense of space and appreciation of dynamics, allowing the music to build in many simultaneous directions in a spirit of musical inquisitiveness and generosity.
