An Afro Venezuelan Jazz Project led by Aleph Aguiar. The main focus of “Pataruco” is to fuse the folklore from Venezuela with the vocabulary of Jazz and contemporary music to create new ways of expression for the Afro Venezuelan Music.
After a long period of research on the folkloric Venezuelan rhythms started in 2005, those musical ideas were gathered into this first album’s compositions.
On the album ‘’PATARUCO’’ are explored 4 key rhythms Sangueos, Joropos, Patanemo and Merengue Caraqueño, which have a strong influence on the Venezuelan tradition while most of it hasn’t yet been explored and shared on a more international level.
Having had the virtuoso pianist Leo Blanco here earlier in the year, we are excited by the music from Venezuela, being handily placed on mainland South America, but next to Colombia and just a few miles from Trinidad.
