Ahead of launching his new project at this years EFG London Jazz Festival, Phil Meadows is coming back to the Vortex to celebrate the music from last years critically acclaimed album Engines of Creation. As 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Newcomer of the Year and Peter Whittingham Jazz Award winner Meadows takes joy in telling tales from cartoonish characters and trivial battles, to marking pivotal situations, arrivals and departures. His clever episodic writing balances an eclectic range of contemporary influences, strong improvisational language and wit as the group showcases players from an important new wave of rising British talent.

NYJO London is an ensemble of highly talented young musicians from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra Academy. They work with Meadows on a Saturday afternoon learning jazz repertoire by ear and transforming their arrangements themselves. No written music, lots of improvisation and boundless energy are to be expected from this dynamic group of young musicians.
