Multi-award-winning guitarist/composer Phil Robson brings a trio to the Vortex which will play a mixture of Robson originals, classic jazz tunes (Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Billy Strayhorn etc) and choice standards from the American Songbook. Joining him are Dave Whitford, one of Europe’s finest double bass players and Irish drummer Darren Becket who cut his teeth in NYC over many years and is now based in the UK. “
Phil Robson is a UK born, multi-award-winning guitarist & composer who was a seminal part of the London scene for many years before relocating to New York City in 2015 for five years. He is now based in Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
He has led bands featuring jazz legends such as David Liebman, Mark Turner, Billy Hart, James Genus, Marc Copland & many more as well as working as a sideman with a huge cross spectrum of internationally renowned artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Barbra Streisand, Steve Lacy, Vince Mendoza, Donny McCaslin, Django Bates, The BBC Big Band, Ingrid Jenson, Phil Woods, Mike Gibbs, Bob Brookmeyer, Steve Wilson etc.
In Europe he is renowned as the co-leader of the cult UK band ‘Partisans’ with
saxophonist Julian Siegel which ran for 23 years as well as for his work with his partner, the great singer/songwriter Christine Tobin.
In New York he is best known for his collaboration with the master saxophonist/composer Jed Levy.
He’s also a ‘Babel’, ‘Whirlwind Recordings’ and ‘Lyte Records’ recording artist with highly acclaimed albums who performs at major venues and festivals around the world. www.philrobson.net
