About

Berlin-based saxophonist Phillip Dornbusch joins three of the most exciting and engaging musicians in the UK for a special concert. The band will play two sets of original music.

Phillip Dornbusch is a Berlin-based saxophonist and composer. The latest release of his Band “Projektor” has been nominated for the “German Jazz Prize”. Phillip has performed concert tours and festival performances at Elbjazz (GER), Jazz Baltica (GER), Rochester International Jazz Festival (USA) and Toronto Jazz Festival (CAN) and had the chance to play with national and international renowned artists such as: Django Bates, Kurz Rosenwinkel, Lucia Cadotsch, Wanja Slavin and many others.

Laura Jurd is a trumpet player, composer and improviser from the UK. A recipient of multiple awards and a BBC New Generation Artist from 2015-2017, Laura has developed a formidable reputation as one of the most distinctive and creative composer-performers to emerge from the UK in recent years. Performing regularly throughout the UK and Europe, she leads the 2017 Mercury-nominated band Dinosaur who have performed at North Sea, Montreal and Molde International Jazz festivals to name a few.

Freddie Jensen is a British double bassist who trained at the junior department of the Royal Academy of Music under flautist Gareth Lockrane. He was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2014, and in 2016 won the first prize in the jazz competition in at the 5th European Biennial Double Bass Congress in Prague. He has shared the stage with musicians such as Norma Winstone, Julian Arguelles, Jean Toussaint, Gwilym Simcock, and Kit Downes.

James Maddren is currently one of the UK’s (and increasingly Mainland Europe’s) first-call young drummers, he enjoys listening to and performing all kinds of music and has shared the stage with many artists and ensembles, including Kit Downes, Gwilym Simcock, Marc Copland/Stan Sulzman Quartet, Will Vinson, Nikkie Iles, Norma Winstone, among others.
