Part of a mini-tour by the ‘arresting trumpet duo’ some things, this gig also features a first-time double trumpet combination of Charlotte Keeffe and Roland Ramanan, playing an improvised set.
some things use original and other material as a basis for improvisations, which results in interlocking solos, tight unison patterns and free improvisations.
They have performed around the UK, including as part of the Arts Council-funded Triple Bill Tour in December 2016, at The Vortex, and at the Lancaster Jazz Festival fringe event. This gig is part of a mini-tour to support their debut full-length album, ‘Positive Feedback’.
Charlotte Keeffe is London-based trumpeter who performs solo and with her quartet, amongst many other projects. She plays regularly with brass octet The Brass Monkeys, and has performed with Laura Mvula, Charlotte Church, and in Moss Freed’s Union Division.
Roland Ramanan is also a London-based trumpeter. Some of his first experiences of improvised music were with the drummer John Stevens, and he has since performed with Peter Brotzmann, Alex Ward and Simon Fell. He leads the group Vole, and performs regularly with the London Improvisers Orchestra.
The gig will feature two duos sets, followed by a short trumpet quartet set.
