The unmistakable sound of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers served as the quintessential hard bop group for nearly fifty years, and remains just as vibrant today. The band’s signature sound combined the technical and compositional elements of 1940s bebop while bringing back to the forefront a strong blues influence that had been so important to the early development of jazz.
Following on from the band’s previous sell out shows at the Vortex featuring Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Thelonious Monk repertoire, we return to present a celebration of another of the all time jazz greats. Expect some well known favourites and a few less commonly played tunes as we spend an evening with one of the iconic figures of 20th century jazz.
