Led by Dutch saxophonist Jorrit Dijkstra, the Whammies specialises in the music of Steve Lacy,
with the notables such as Jeb Bishop from Chicago and Han Bennink from Amsterdam. Steve Lacy is one of the most influential composers and performers of the mid to late 20th century, with ‘fans’ ranging from Steve Arguelles and the Loop Collective through to Evan Parker.
‘The band performs their self-described “instant-arranging” of mostly Lacy tunes that in true-to-form fashion elicit surprise and clever improvisation. ****’ (allaboutjazz)
