TONY DUDU (GUINEA BISSAU)
GUINEA BISSAUAN guitarist TONY DUDU and his band Gumbe Jazz featuring Angolan percussionist TELLO MORGADO, Mozambiquean drummer ELAIS KACOMANOLIS, Nigerian bassist EMMANUEL OLADAKUN, Ghanaian keyboardist EBENEZER KWAME bring their music which is highly influenced by sounds and rhythms of Guinea-Bissau, a tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic coast. The capital, Bissau, is a port with Portuguese influences and their fusion of rhythms explain the sounds of Tony Dudu.
Tony Dudu’s stylistic and technical brilliance has made his music unique and if you add the various influences of the countries his musicians come from (Angola, Mozambique, Nigeria and Ghana) you are beginning to get how Tony Dudu and Gumbe Jazz create such a unique sound.
The band has developed a musical language on their own and have developed a deep understanding of each musician’s playing that makes for mesmerising listening. This is the music that connects the sounds and rhythms of the African diaspora from Tony Dudu’s guitar.
