The concept of ‘empathy’, especially for art, can easily be extended to music. (Originally it was separated from abstraction by art historian Wilhelm Worringer.)
It relates to the listener. To what degree is the emotional response more important than the analytical. Has academia led us too far away from the former and towards the latter?
For example, Georg Vogel, an Austrian pianist, has developed a new scale with the octave divided into 31. This could be good for appreciation of music and the inner self, or just a gimmick. (More about the clavitone on georgvogel.net)
