While a few venues like the Vortex have reopened, nevertheless their gigs have been with limited audiences and band sizes. So, there are still tremendous shortage of chances to hear much music live. And, with the second wave already arriving, the chance of expansion of the live sector is really unlikely, and indeed it may already be about to disappear again. So we may not have a proper revival till 2021, when a vaccine may be arriving, or the pandemic is suppressed by warmer weather.
So, are there other ways of getting the music heard that we should be investigating? Into homes (as happened a bit during lockdown)? More streaming? Galleries? Museums? Even shivering in gardens?
And we really are in a desparate state to find ways to support the gigging musicians! Especially as they have such little support from the government.
This discussion is open to all. And all ideas welcomed.
