“Vortex Lates” is a new series of events taking place in our downstairs bar from 10-1am every Friday or Saturday. A new late-night jazz hang for Dalston where you can grab a drink and listen to some of the best improvised musicians from around the city. For only £6, check out exciting music from a revolving line-up of innovative performers digging into standards and new music alongside DJs spinning vinyl until the early hours. A relaxed atmosphere with special drinks offers each night and an opportunity to be part of the extended Vortex community.
This time we are joined by a brand new collaboration between 3 of London’s most exciting and in demand musicians brought together especially for this London Jazz Festival performance in the more casual setting of the Vortex downstairs bar. Will Barry on Keys (Wynton Marsalis, Joe Farnsworth), Jamie Murray on Drums (Robben Ford, Guthrie Govan) and Nick Costley-White on Guitar (Alex Garnett, Brandon Allen).
They’ll be performing music by all three members of the band, along with tunes inspired by the legendary (and much missed) 55 bar in New York. The 55 bar nurtured residencies by some of the most creative musicians in the downtown scene of rock/jazz improvisation, including guitar heroes Wayne Krantz, Adam Rogers, Mike Stern and many more.
