The pandemic has had a dramatic impact on jazz. Inherently a music to be experienced ‘live’ and with an audience, this audience has been lost with venues such as the Vortex closed.
But…..we have had new contacts develop online and new ways of seeing gigs. With added artistry, connections across continents. But fewer performers.
What might happen when gigs come back – in London in August – but with more limited socially-distanced audiences? Should we give up on streams as soon as we can, because they are imperfect and difficult to monetise?
These are some of the questions that we look at today.
