A weekly session on Sunday evenings, the jams will be hosted by some of London’s finest: drummer Jas Kayser, pianist Rick Simpson, guitarist Nick Costley-White, trumpeter Sean Gibbs and tenor saxophonists Harben Kay and Riley Stone-Lonergan (+ sometimes a few guest leaders) each one hosting one session on rotation.
Diarra Walcott-Ivanhoe is a pianist and composer from North London. His quintet performs his own compositions which draw inspiration from man of his personal experiences, exploring themes of loss, memory and belonging.
New quartet Lophae (pronounced “lo-fi”) launch their debut LP ‘Perfect Strangers’ with this rare live show. Guitarist and composer Greg Sanders – known for his work with Juanita Euka and Teotima – brings a unique aesthetic and an unmistakable feel to every musical setting he appears in. To form Lophae (pronounced Lo-fi), Sanders calls on three of his favourites: drummer Ben Brown, bass player Tom Herbert and saxophonist Sam Rapley.
London based guitarist and composer David Preston returns to the Vortex with a quartet featuring: Jonny Mansfield (vibraphone), Conor Chaplin (double bass) and Marc Michel (drums).
A lauded master on the European Jazz scene, Paul Dunmall celebrates his 72nd birthday with this specially invited Sextet. Multi generational and drawing from a wide variety of inspirations this particular ensemble is well suited to Dunmall’s program for this concert.

Vasilis Xenopoulos and Paul Edis began playing together 20 years ago, when they had both relocated to West London to study. Originally from Greece, Vasilis had just finished studying at Berklee College in the US, whilst Paul had moved South from the Northeast of England.

Following the first live recording session of ORBIT: On the Wings of Freedom in November 2024, tap dancer and bandleader Petra Haller returns to the Vortex Jazz Club with the second chapter: ORBIT: The Fierce Urgency of Now. Taking place on May 13th, this concert will once again be recorded live, contributing to an upcoming album set for release in late 2025 or early 2026.

Deschanel Gordon, the 2020 BBC Young Jazz Musician winner has collaborated with artists including Mark Kavuma, Cassie Kinoshi’s Seed, Nubya Garcia, Courtney Pine, Ezra Collective, Jean Toussaint, Patrick Bartley and Joe Farnsworth. His music embodies swing, groove, and his Jamaican heritage.

Roger Turner and Chris Biscoe have played together since the 1960s, though it’s only in the 2000s that they have regularly gigged. N.O.Moore recently recorded with Roger, and the inspiring soundscape he brings to performance suggested him as a new voice to amplify this enduring partnership.
